Nha San Collective - 20+ Anniversary

About

Dear friends, 2018 marks the 20th year of  Nha San Studio*, founded by the two artists Nguyễn Mạnh Đức and Trần Lương at the private house shared by the former and Ms. Hiền Lương, where the door has always been open and food aplenty, to welcome all and any creatives - regardless of their background and age - to meet, exchange, to hold exhibitions.

In relation to the previous anniversary happenings, 20+ is yet another proposition by Nhà Sàn Collective* that started from the viewpoints, interests and practices of young artists and curators. How would one celebrate a seasoned ‘art space’? How to engender conversations between artists whose practices have begun at different points in time?

In the series of exhibitions and events taking place in December, artworks from those of the most recent generation of artists will be showcased along with works that initially appeared more than a decade ago, now revisited in a contemporary context. Additionally, a publication** will be out next year surrounding a series of multi-dimensional discussions on Nhà Sàn*.

Nhà Sàn Collective hopes that new meetings will be initiated by 20+, so that this coming future yet to be defined will be an exciting one.

* The different names of Nha Sàn/ Nhà Sàn Đức/ Nhà Sàn Studio/ Nhà Sàn Collective were explained in the “Spirit of Friendship” project by The Factory Contemporary Arts Center

Emerging Artist Programme #AMAZING #SICK

In #Amazing #Sick, young artists seem to be exploring their own ‘instincts’, searching for the seeming ‘undefinable’ - perhaps, to conquer it? To look for different explanations of the meaning of the intertwined links between Material-Time-Space that humans were and are* Establishing-Using-Invading?

IN:ACT

If one or more significant practices exist among generations of Nha San artists, performance art has always had its place. If we are to imagine this practice of performance art as something tangible then that gives the impression of something passed down through generations, in their own distinctive communication signals.

Exhibition 462 ĐƯỜNG BƯỞI

462 Đường Bưởi. Ngõ 6 Vĩnh Phúc. 657 Hoàng Hoa Thám. These are addresses—‘address,’ by definition, meaning a collection of descriptive information that locates a house, a structure or an expanse of land. Information that identifies. Might this identified position be scattered across multiple addresses or might it be an incompleteness to somehow be precisely pinpointed? Like Nhà Sàn, for instance? Could it be a schizophrenic place, viewed from within and outside? Could it be a generous place that accepts multiple namings, seemingly incomplete when judged by certain standards or expectations? Or could it simply be a place that has lived long enough? These different addresses, serving as a collection of clues, along with the searches and approaches they contain are deeply contingent on negotiations between various positions—positions occupied by art practitioners such as artists and curators, as well as positions of the artworks themselves, viewed spatially and temporally from plural vantage points.
